Eazy Express is the 2005
winner of the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce's Business Development Award,
sponsored by Business Development Bank of Canada.
This award is presented to a business that demonstrates a positive attitude for
job creation and growth within the community.
Accepting on behalf of Eazy Express was Ted Brooks (shown).
Here's what they said about Eazy Express at the award presentation:
Eazy Express Inc. began in 1990 with a single combined urban service contract
with Canada Post Corporation and a staff of nine employees.
The growth pattern for Eazy Express since their beginning certainly demonstrates
how they have expanded their boundaries and grown on a national basis as an
independent courier service.
From 1991-1995 they focused their growth in the Sault and area.
They expanded into rural route mail delivery and highway services with Canada
Post.
They also began a new relationship with Avon Canada in Montreal to distribute
every three weeks to 1,300 AVON representatives in the Sault, North Bay, Timmins
and Sudbury.
In 1996 the Sault Star distribution came on board.
This includes daily distribution of the local newspaper to the dealer and
carrier network locally, north to Wawa and east to Blind River.
By the end of 1996 Eazy Express staff had grown to 68 full and part-time
positions.
From 1997 to 2000 Eazy continued to expand across Ontario.
They received Rural Mail Contracts in Kingston, Woodbridge, Port Colborne,
Thunder Bay and Oshawa/Whitby.
In Highway Services they expanded in the north to include Marathon, Missinabie,
Kirkland Lake, Serpent River and Echo Bay.
In the Combined Urban Services expansion took them to Amherstburg, Cambridge,
Leamington, Timmins and Woodstock.
They also grew with Avon Canada by adding another 1,500 sales reps deliveries in
London and all of the Golden Horseshoe area.
In 2001 to 2003 they continued to grow winning numerous contracts in all areas
of delivery with Canada Post.
The Year of 2004 has seen Eazy Express going Canadawide.
Canada Post has awarded them with CUS contracts in Thompson Manitoba, Prince
Rupert British Columbia and Fredericton New Brunswick.
Since 1990 staff has increased from nine full time to a total today of 100 full
time and 90 part time employees.
Over the years Eazy Express has involved itself with events in the Sault
including corporate sponsorship for Ontario's largest winter Carnival Bon Soo,
as well as contributing in various ways to many other worthwhile community
organizations throughout the city.
Congratulations to Eazy Express for their achievements and success over the past
15 years!
